The training and installation however will be done by the actual hardware and software manufactures. RAID systems are installed by Chaparral engineers, SAN software is installed by DataCore as well as site planning and training. Infrastructure will be done by JES. The infrastructure will include all cabinetry, cabling and rack installations. JES while fully qualified and certified to do all facets of the installation, would prefer the team approach to each and every installation. Storage Area Network for our purposes here is a way to allow multiple servers
access to an unlimited storage pool. Storage is merely added into the SAN and
all servers think they have more storage. The users in the mean time do not even
know that the storage is coming from another source other than the server.
In a sense the server is a gateway for workstations into the SAN. SAN’s
are created using FIBRE channel switches and copper FIBRE cable or fiber FIBRE
for long distances. Switches generally come in 8,16,32 and 64 port
configurations. Switches can be chained together for larger needs. As you can
see a SAN is simple to build, simply place FIBRE adapters in your servers,a SAN
infrastructure of switches and FIBRE JBOD or FIBRE RAID systems. Now you have a
SAN. Next you need storage virtualization software to distribute and manage all
storage systems attached to the SAN. This is the main problem with SAN topology
the ability to manage multiple storage arrays seamlessly. Enter DataCore and storage
